2019 Corporate Honoree:
The Employees of VOXX International
The management of VOXX International believes that its employees are quite literally the ‘heart’ of the Company and so we are proud and honored to join the American Heart Association in applauding their efforts.
Most of you know VOXX as a leading global manufacturer and supplier of consumer electronic products in automotive, premium audio, consumer accessory and now biometric industries. We have a great history and some of our 30 consumer brands are literally household names like Klipsch®, RCA®, Acoustic Research®, Jensen and of course Audiovox®. Our founder, John Shalam and our president Pat Lavelle are respected leaders in the electronics industry…. but there is a side of VOXX that is not so public and one that you may not know and that is the ‘people’ side….the side that is honored by the American Heart Association today.
VOXX International and its subsidiaries support a wide variety of charities nationwide, including Make A Wish, where their Klipsch subsidiary is a corporate sponsor of the Wish Gala and Walk for Wishes events, and where employees have designed and constructed two game rooms for Wish Kids. Corporately, the Company also supports the Red Cross and Disabled American Veterans (DAV) where again, support goes beyond donating money. The Company matches employee contributions and sponsors local events for the charity. The employees have even included a veteran as a special guest at our annual parties as a small way to say ‘thank you’ to a local vet.
Going beyond corporate support is the hallmark of VOXX employee participation and nowhere is this more apparent than with the American Heart Association. VOXX is a local sponsor of their Go Red for Women Luncheon on Long Island and one of our company executives sits on that committee. Beyond that, when the American Heart Association needs ‘hands on’ help they know to call us. Whether it is to stuff a thousand swag bags or wrap auction items, the staff is there to pitch in, often on their own time.
But the big show of VOXX’s American Heart Association efforts is the VOXX KidZone at the Long Island Heart Walk, which is managed and run completely by VOXX employees and attended by over 100 of them and their families. All day, they staff the KidZone activity tents playing games, decorating pumpkins, face painting and tattoos, making sand art and even getting soaked in the dunk tank! The Company believes that the KidZone has become an significant addition to the Heart Walk and can increase participation in that all-important event.
Participation in the KidZone requires a substantial commitment on the part of a volunteer; lunch meetings are held to organize, plan and purchase the thousands of supplies used during the event and the prizes and gifts to be given away. Hundreds of hours are spent learning how to make balloon animals or face paint or mastering sand art! All of this done on the employee’s own time.
VOXX International is dedicated to improving the well-being and safety of its employees, but those programs only work with the full support and participation of the employees. Training in First Aid, CPR, and AED’s or the Safety Committee to make sure the environment is the best it can be, only works when the employees participate. Company sponsored wellness programs such as Healthy Lunch Club programs, Lunch and Learns, 'Stop Smoking Sessions', 'Stress in the Workplace' sessions, and Weight Watcher's at work are only successful when employee participation is strong… and Participation is the mantra of the VOXX team!
Way to go VOXX!!!
