Audrey & Martin Gruss
The Audrey and Martin Gruss Foundation are the key sponsor of The Audrey and Martin Gruss Heart & Stroke Center at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital in Southampton, NY.
Audrey Gruss is President of The Audrey and Martin Gruss Foundation, which she established 30-years ago with her husband Martin to support charitable activities in the cultural arts, education and medical research. Mrs. Gruss brought the skills of her executive experience in the fields of international marketing and advertising to the non-profit arena. She was the former co-owner and President of Terme di Saturnia, Inc., an international scientific skincare firm, and held executive positions at J.P. Stevens and Elizabeth Arden, as Director of Advertising and Creative Services Worldwide. She is the President of Hope Fragrances International as a vehicle to raise international awareness for depression.
Audrey is the Founder and Chairman of Hope for Depression Research Foundation, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Haifa, for her courage and perseverance in creating a research foundation to support this visionary mission. She is the President of Hope Fragrances International as a vehicle to create international awareness of depression. Mrs. Gruss graduated with honors from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. A fellow of Tufts University, she established The Audrey Butvay Gruss Science Award for women.
Audrey’s philanthropic efforts have both a U.S and international dimension. In NYC, she is a Board member of Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, The FIT Couture Council and The Byrd Hoffman Watermill Center. She is a Director Emeriti of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and a former Board member of The Public Theater/NY Shakespeare Festival. She is on the Chairman’s Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and a Patron of The Guggenheim Museum. Mrs. Gruss is a major Benefactor of the Inner-City Scholarship Fund and a Patron of The Metropolitan Opera, Lincoln Center Theater, The New York Botanical Garden and The NY Horticultural Society. In Palm Beach, Mrs. Gruss is a Board member of the Hospice Guild and The Preservation Foundation. She is a Founder of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts and a member of the Benefactor’s Council of the Society of the Four Arts. Internationally, Mrs. Gruss is a Board member of the American Friends of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. She is on the Advisory Board of FAI, the premier architectural preservation group in Italy, and is a member of the International Council of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Paris.
Martin D. Gruss
Martin D. Gruss is Senior Manager of Gruss & Co., Inc., a private family investment firm based in Palm Beach, Florida. He received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1964 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from New York University School of Law in 1967. He is a member of the Bar Association of the State of New York. Mr. Gruss resides in Palm Beach, Florida and maintains summer homes in Southampton, New York and London, England.
Mr. Gruss is Chairman of the Audrey and Martin Gruss Foundation and the Gruss Life Monument Foundation. He is Trustee Emeritus of the Lawrenceville School, and former member of the Board of Overseers of the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a past Trustee of the St. Bernard’s School, the Guggenheim Museum, the Whitney Museum, Lenox Hill Hospital and the Endowment for Inner-City Education. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Mack Cali Corporations. Mr. Gruss serves on the Architectural Review Board of the Town of Palm Beach.
Mr. Gruss is a member of the Atlantic Golf Club, the Beach Club of Palm Beach, the Emerald Dunes Golf Club, the Meadow Club, the New York Yacht Club, the Metropolitan Club and the Queenwood Golf Club in England. He is a former member of the Guards Polo Club at Windsor Park, the Greenwich Polo Club, and the Palm Beach Polo Club. He is a member of the Vintage Car Club of America and the American Bugatti Club.
Mr. Gruss has two children, Mr. Joshua Gruss and Mrs. Amanda Gruss Chambers, and six grandchildren.

Dr. Apostolos K. Tassiopoulos
Department Chair of Vascular Surgery at Stony Brook
Director of the Heart and Stroke Center at Southampton Hospital
Apostolos K. Tassiopoulos, MD, FACS, professor of surgery and vice chair for quality and outcomes, is chief of the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Stony Brook Medicine. In addition, he serves as director of the Stony Brook Vascular Center, co-director of the Aortic Center, and director of the Surgical Skills Center. Dr. Tassiopoulos joined the faculty of Stony Brook’s Department of Surgery in 2006, rising quickly to leadership positions. He received his MD from Aristotle University Medical School in Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1989, and subsequently served for two years as a general medical officer in the Hellenic Air Force of Greece. In 1992, he moved to Houston, TX, to pursue a one-year postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular surgery at Baylor College of Medicine. He then completed his residency training in general surgery at SUNY Upstate Medical University in 1999, and went on to complete his training in vascular surgery at Loyola University. An active scholar as well as a dedicated clinician, Dr. Tassiopoulos is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. At Stony Brook, he continues to advance his clinical research in the field of venous disease.
